Many children are afraid of the dental drill noise, as well as the shot and long lasting numb feeling that follows. When fixing a cavity the laser at Pediatric Dentistry often eliminates the need for local anesthesia and the traditional noisy dental drill.
With a laser, we are able to do hard and soft tissue procedures. In addition to being able to remove dental decay, the laser can be used for procedures like frenectomies (tongue ties) and gingivectomies (removal of excess gum tissue) without sutures, bleeding, and often times without anesthesia. Procedures completed with the laser usually have a faster recovery time and painless healing, which helps make procedures easier, more comfortable, and less scary for children. Dr. Kim is the only pediatric dentist in the area to have a laser in her office. She received her training and certification from the American Academy of Laser Dentistry.
